Other works in Latin or German are by contemporary (15th-18th century) European authors on subjects such as history, theology and languages. Most were originally written by classical figures such as Aristotle, Julius Caesar, Cicero, Livy, and Sophocles, on topics such as language, history and literature. The bulk of the collection consists of Latin texts printed in the 16th through 18th-centuries. ![]() Based upon Reichenbach's original hand-written inventory list (preserved in the College Archives), 62 titles are still held by the College. ![]() In all, Reichenbach left approximately 136 titles in the care of the College with one-half of them to be held for the use of and/or retention by his grandson. It was bequeathed to the College in 1821 by William Reichenbach, Professor of Mathematics at Franklin College from 1787 to 1821, and formed the core of the first library collection held by the institution. The Reichenbach Collection is the oldest collection held by the Franklin and Marshall College Library. ![]()
